IT-OT Cybersecurity in the UAE

The Main Difference Between the IT And OT Systems

They depend on standardized operating systems and software applications that are commonly used across organizations. In contrast, OT systems function in highly specialized industrial settings. They are designed around customized, often proprietary, technologies like SCADA systems and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).

Cybersecurity priorities in IT and OT are quite different. In IT, the focus is on protecting data confidentiality, ensuring that only authorized users can access information. OT cybersecurity, on the other hand, prioritizes safety and availability. The continuous and secure operation of physical processes is crucial, as failures in OT systems can lead to serious consequences like equipment damage, production halts, safety risks, or even disruptions to national infrastructure.
